Mahsa Javid joined the American Anthropological Association in September 2019, as the director of development. In this new role, Mahsa will oversee the growth of AAA’s fundraising program, encompassing the annual fund, major gifts from individual and institutional donors, planned giving, donor relations, philanthropic events, and communications in support of these programs.
Mahsa has worked in the nonprofit sector for a variety of academic, arts, and cultural organizations in the Washington, DC, area. Previously, as the executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Cultural Heritage Preservation, Mahsa led educational and advocacy projects around federal and state legislation that impact cultural heritage issues, and helped build strategic partnerships with law schools across the United States. As the major gift officer at the George Washington University Museum and The Textile Museum, she focused on building a new generation of museum donors at the major gift and leadership gift levels, as well as managing grant proposals and financial reporting to foundations and government agencies.
Mahsa has a bachelor’s degree in interior design from London Metropolitan University and a master’s degree in arts management from George Mason University.
Outside of work, Mahsa enjoys teaching fitness classes, practicing Ikebana (the ancient Japanese art of flower arranging), attending arts and cultural events, and traveling.
